Linda Heskamp

Linda Heskamp studied Technical Medicine at the University of Twente. She is specialized in the acquisition and processing of medical signals. In September 2014, she started her PhD at the Biomedical MR research Group under supervision of Arend Heerschap. Her thesis focuses on facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1), two highly prevalent muscular diseases. The research goal of her thesis is to get more insight in the pathophysiology of FSHD and DM1 to determine which MR biomarkers can be used for diagnosis and treatment evaluation. One of the projects she is working on is the evaluation of the effect of cognitive behavioural therapy in DM1 patients. Cognitive behavioural therapy aims to increase the physical activity of these patients. She investigated what the effect of this treatment is in the muscles itself by visualizing them with MRI.
